The striped mongoose can employ a self-defense tactic called “siege,” in which the entire flock competes against a predator in a closed circle, moving rhythmically and hissing to look like a formidable opponent. Civets also work together to raise their offspring. However, male civets can engage in fighting during the breeding season, and females are sometimes forced to leave if the herd becomes too large.
