Over 150 Neglected Sick Dogs & Horses Removed From Deplorable Puppy Mill

Animals don’t ask to be brought into a cruel world. They simply want someone to care for them with love and respect, feed them, and be sure they have medical care and shelter. Unfortunately, millions of animals are neglected and abused every single year. Thanks to the folks at the Delta Animal Shelter in Delta County, Michigan, 150 neglected dogs and horses are no longer living in danger.

An alleged puppy mill in a section of Michigan called the Upper Peninsula or U.P. was raided in conjunction with the Michigan State Police Gladstone Post and Delta County Sheriff’s Office. A total of 65 dogs — many of them pregnant — and 69 puppies were removed from the property in Maple Ridge Township. The next day, officials returned to the property and removed 20 horses, including several pregnant miniature horses.

“They never asked for this life,” the Delta Animal Shelter wrote in a Facebook post. “Don’t support backyard breeders no matter how bad you want a puppy. This is so disgusting for all these pups.”

Many of the dogs and puppies were caked in feces and soaked in urine when officials removed them from the kennels. One of the officials noted dogs were emaciated, ribs were visible through the skin, and she smelled a strong scent of feces. Although all the animals have been removed from the alleged puppy mill, officials noted the investigation is in the “early baby stages.”

The shelter has been posting images of the seized animals on their Facebook page. Many of the dogs are so severely matted that it is difficult to discern the front from the back of the body. Thanks to everyone who pitched in to help these precious animals with a fresh start in life.
