Dog Siblings Meet On The Street, Immediately Recognize Each Other And Can’t Stop Hugging

There were six puppies in their litter, but these two pups always shared a special bond.

Two pet parents had no idea they were paving the way for a family reunion when they took their dogs out for a regular walk. What unexpectedly followed was a heartening moment that made the entire internet echo with “aww”s.

The memorable encounter took place when two cockapoos from two different homes bumped into each other while on their walk. When the two dogs, Monty and Rosie, approached each other, they didn’t just wag their tails and try to say “hello” as dogs might generally do. Instead, Monty and Rosie seemed to recognize each other and excitedly jumped on the other for a warm embrace.

“Aw it was so lovely, they both just jumped up and hugged each other, it was amazing, they remembered each other after 10 months of not seeing each other,” said Susan Killip, Rosie’s pet parent, while speaking to The Epoch Times.

Susan revealed that the two puppies were born on June 30, 2019, at Bishop Middleham, a village in County Durham in the UK. The litter had six puppies in total, but Monty and Rosie clearly shared a special bond right from the start.

“There were six of them,” Susan told The Dodo. “But Monty and Rosie were always together.”

Soon after the puppies’ birth, Susan and her husband, Lee, picked up Rosie from the breeder whilst their friends, David and Jean Kidd, had taken Monty home. Around this time, the puppies also got to share a week together after Susan went out of town for a holiday. “[They] had so much fun,” Susan told The Epoch Times. She added that the puppies bonded well during that one week and enjoyed themselves for the short while.

Once Susan returned back home from the holiday, she took Rosie back home, whereas Monty continued living with Jean and David.

“[Rosie] never saw Monty again… Jean & David live in the next village so we never see them,” Susan said.

After nearly a year, Rosie and Monty unexpectedly met each other while they were taken out for a walk. And it looked like they hadn’t forgotten each other after spending nine months apart.

“We always knew they were related to each other but we just never had the time for them to meet up,” Susan said.

After David captured moments of their reunion in 2020, he sent pictures to his daughter, Libby Pincher, who then shared the pictures on social media. The pictures went viral and tugged at the hearts of everyone who saw them.

The viral photos also prompted some to question whether dogs can really remember their siblings from the same litter. Although most social media users felt sure about Rosie and Monty recognizing each other, The Dodo quoted Tufts University saying: “Dogs of the same breed often gravitate toward each other. What we know is this: The scent of another dog stays with a dog for a long time… But whether the dog is processing that it’s a familial connection, we’ll probably never know for sure.”
