However, as he grew old and became paralyzed, his family heartlessly abandoned him, treating him no better than trash. Left alone in their old house, the senior dog suffered from various health issues and a broken heart, yearning for the love and companionship he once knew.
But fate had a different plan for him. Gianna Serena Manfredi and compassionate volunteers from the Qua La Zampa Association discovered the paralyzed pooch near Bitonto, Bari, Italy. They named him Heart, symbolizing the resilience and strength he embodied.
Despite his physical challenges, including spinal and ear problems, as well as paralysis in his hind legs, Heart remained a fighter. He showed incredible strength and independence, refusing to let his condition define him. Recognizing the love and care Heart deserved, Gianna and a group of dedicated women formed “The Remote Mothers.” They took turns looking after Heart, ensuring he experienced the affection and support he had been denied for far too long.
Heart’s final days were filled with love and care, thanks to the unwavering dedication of his newfound family. However, his happiness was bittersweet, as he could only spend one year with them. As his final moments approached, Gianna made a heartfelt decision to accompany Heart on his last journey to the ocean, providing him with a memorable experience.
Gianna beautifully described her encounter with the sea, finding solace and beauty in the wind caressing her ears and the rhythmic crashing of the waves against the rocks. In the stillness of winter, the sound of the sea brought a sense of peace and tranquility.
