Unfortunately, it happens all too often.In the case of Shey, a 14-year-old miniature poodle, her family left her at the Animal Rescue League of Iowa when they relocated. She was left virtually toothless, partially blind, and deaf, but she remained patient and hopeful for a new home.

Four months later, Shey’s life changed forever when a little boy named Tristan arrived at the shelter. He was hoping to find a snuggly puppy to bring home, but the staff at the shelter introduced him to Shey, despite her age and health issues.

They explained to Tristan that Shey would require special attention, but he was undeterred. He realized that he was capable of caring for her and decided to adopt her as his own.

It is heartwarming to see a young child show such compassion and kindness towards an older dog in need. Shey may not be a young and spry puppy, but she still has so much love to give, and now she has a loving family to give it to.
