A Journey of Resilience and Love.
A Challenging Beginning
Picasso, a corgi-pit bull mix, was born with a misaligned jaw that gave his face a unique, “abstract” appearance. His deformity led to him being labeled as “unwanted” by his backyard breeder, and he was dumped at a California shelter where he was scheduled to be euthanized. However, fate had different plans for Picasso. His brother, Pablo, also ended up at the same facility, and together, they faced the uncertain future.
A Rescue Mission
Liesl Wilhardt, the founder of Luvable Dog Rescue, saw something special in Picasso and his brother. She decided to save them from their dire situation and brought them into her care. Sadly, their bonded pair was short-lived. Pablo, just 1 year old, tragically passed away from a brain aneurysm, leaving Picasso heartbroken and alone.
A New Purpose
Despite the loss of his brother, Picasso found new purpose and joy. Liesl, who had fallen in love with Picasso’s unique charm and exceptional temperament, decided to give him a forever home. Picasso now lives with Liesl and nine other rescued dogs, where he is training to become a certified therapy dog. His journey is not just about survival but about making a difference in the lives of others.
Becoming an Ambassador
Picasso’s life has taken a new turn as he works towards his therapy dog certification and serves as an ambassador for Luvable Dog Rescue. His facial deformity, once seen as a flaw, has become a symbol of his resilience and strength. Liesl wants everyone to know that Picasso’s quality of life is not diminished by his appearance. Despite the challenges his jaw presents, Picasso is pain-free and full of life.
