Lola’s journey from neglect to love is nothing short of miraculous. For eight long years, she endured the solitude of a dark, dirty garage, her only company the cold concrete floor. No veterinary care, no freedom from her leash—just isolation.
When fate finally intervened through a compassionate woman who alerted AMA Animal Rescue, Lola’s fortunes began to change. Rescuers arrived to liberate her from the chains that bound her spirit. Despite her ordeal, Lola greeted them with a wagging tail and a heart full of forgiveness.
“We nicknamed her ‘wavy butt,’” recounted Michele Walsh, a volunteer with AMA. “She was so sociable, kissing everyone, overjoyed to be rescued.” Lola’s journey to recovery wasn’t easy. Tumors needed surgical removal, and months in foster care followed. Then, Charlène von Saher entered her life—a kindred spirit from Manhattan who saw beyond Lola’s scars to the gentle soul within.
“It only took a few days for Lola to find her favorite spots, making herself comfortable with cushions and even my pillow,” von Saher shared. Lola’s antics, like stacking dog beds or creating her own cozy nests, brought laughter and warmth into their home.
Lola’s love for sunlight hints at the deprivation she endured, yet her resilience shines brighter. Through her, von Saher learned the true meaning of patience and unconditional love. “She’s improving day by day,” von Saher mused. “They say adopting a dog saves two lives—you rescue one and make space for another.”
Indeed, Lola’s journey embodies hope and redemption, reminding us of the transformative power of compassion. In her new life, she thrives, a testament to the healing that comes from being seen, cared for, and cherished.
