Bolo, the 3-year-old pit bull mix, was initially meant to spend just one day at the Hopkinsville Police Office, but his brief visit turned into a permanent stay as he captured the hearts of everyone he encountered.
Introduced through the “Paw-Trol Wednesdays” initiative to promote shelter dogs, Bolo quickly became a favorite among the police department staff. His friendly demeanor and playful antics charmed everyone, prompting many to inquire about adopting him.
“He just fit right in and started playing with everyone,” recalled Royale Marfil, the officer behind the program. “People were asking, ‘Can we keep him?’” The bond deepened as Bolo relaxed in Marfil’s office, where he eventually dozed off with contented snores—a moment that touched Marfil deeply.
When it was time to return Bolo to the shelter, his reluctance to leave was palpable. Sensing his attachment, Marfil sought permission for him to stay. The response was unanimous: Bolo was officially welcomed into the police family.
Now a cherished member of the team, Bolo accompanies Marfil to work daily and returns home with her each night. His joy was evident when he realized he was getting adopted, evident by his excitement at picking out collars and toys at PetSmart.
Formally inducted with a ceremony naming him Hopkinsville’s honorary Paw-trol Officer, Bolo has become a beloved fixture in the office. Marfil humorously notes how visitors now come to see Bolo more than her, often bringing him treats that he eagerly devours.
Unlike the department’s working dogs, Bolo’s role is simply to be himself—a source of smiles and comfort for everyone around him. With his infectious grin and boundless affection, Bolo embodies the spirit of unconditional love, bringing joy to all who encounter him in his newfound home at the police office.
