Loyal Dog Walks 62 Miles For Two Weeks To Find Her Owners

A faithful family dog in China has gone on a tireless quest to try find her home after her owners left the pet with a friend to be looked after temporarily.

The one-year-old golden retriever, named Ping An or ‘safe and sound’, was markedly thin and injured with bleeding paws after walking over 62 miles alone for 14 days.

The limping canine was spotted outside an office building by a group of workers who rescued the animal and tracked down her owners, a state-owned newspaper reported.

The family living in eastern China’s Qidong city asked a friend to look after their golden retriever after being occupied with renovating their home in June, according to Jianghai Evening News.

They then drove over two hours to drop off Ping An at the friend’s house in Nantong which was over 100 kilometers (62 miles) away.

But nearly four months later, the family was devastated to find out that their beloved pet had run away from their friend’s house and gone missing.

What the family didn’t know was that their loyal canine had, in fact, went on an arduous solo trek to find her way back to them.

After tirelessly walking for more than 62 miles for 14 days, Ping An was spotted and saved by a group of workers outside an office in Qidong city last Monday.

The dog was said to have injuries on her paws with bleeding toes when she was discovered.

She also looked ‘quite depressed after she was unable to find her owners’, the rescuers said.

Pictures taken by the employees show the golden retriever lying on the road, looking undernourished and seemingly sad with her head down.

While temporarily looking after the dog, the workers began trying to track down the pet owners by sharing information locally on WeChat, a popular Chinese messenger app.

Within the day, their social post was seen by the Chinese family who recognized their pet dog in the pictures and rushed to pick up Ping An from the company’s site.

In a heart-warming video, the family can be seen stroking and hugging their golden retriever as they were finally reunited after four months.

They can be heard saying to their pet: ‘Ping An, you’ve worked hard. You just stay home from now on. [We] would never send you away.’

Ping An is recovering from her injuries after being taken to a vet, according to her owners.

Touched by the pet’s loyalty, the family told reporters that they would keep Ping An by their side for the rest of her life.

Last week, the story about another loyal dog which walked 37 miles within 26 days to find its owners melted the hearts of millions in China.

The seven-year-old pet, nicknamed Dou Dou, was said to be forgotten by the Chinese family when they stopped at the motorway facility for a break.

After trotting through bustling traffic and busy highways for nearly a month, the exhausted animal was emaciated and covered in dirt when it finally returned home.
