Mama Dog Hesitates At First, Then Leads Rescuers To Where She Had Given Birth

“Northeast Animal Rescue” was alerted about a homeless dog living near an overpass in the middle of winter. The dog would run around on the busy roads begging travelers for food all day and endangering her life.

A rescue worker named Will set out to locate the dog and bring her to safety before she got hit by a car.

In this video, we see Will driving by the partially snowy roads until he locates the frail dog, who was later named Sierra.

It didn’t take him long to realize that Sierra was a nursing mother and had possibly just given birth in the area. Will earnestly reached out to Sierra and coaxed her to take him to her babies.

Sierra was hesitant at first, but she knew it in her heart that Will meant well. Hope gradually overpowered her fears and she began running across the dried up fields, making timely stops to ensure that Will was following her correctly.

She then abruptly disappeared inside at an old culvert. Will stooped down and crawled into the tunnel, and was relieved to find Sierra’s puppies safely hidden away in the dark chamber!

Will initially thought Sierra would protectively bring her litter out on her own, but he was wrong. Instead, she began wagging her tail at Will and making feeble whimpering noises, as if she was begging him to save her little ones.

Will acknowledged the gesture and slithered into the tunnel. He pulled out each of Sierra’s babies (2 boys and 3 girls), while the anxious mama lingered by his legs to diligently supervise the rescue operation!

Sierra happily hopped into the crate once she was assured that her precious puppies were safe and sound.

She is now busy being a “responsible” mama at the shelter, where she seems super grateful for the timely rescue! We hope this lovely family finds their dream forever homes in due time!
