Queen Elizabeth gets new Corgi puppy, bringing comfort during ‘rough time’ in her life

A dog’s love can be the best thing in the world, no matter who you are. Dogs love you unconditionally, and can be the most reliable companions when you’re feeling down.

Even Queen Elizabeth, one of the most famous and powerful people in the world, turns to her dogs for some joy. The Queen is a famous dog lover who has had royal Corgis throughout her life.

And recently, the Queen got a new addition to the family — a puppy to bring her some joy following the deaths of her husband Prince Philip in April, and the sudden death of one of her other dogs, Fergus.

According to The Sun, the puppy was a gift from her son Prince Andrew and his daughters, Beatrice and Eugenie. The name is currently unknown, but he is a six-week-old male.

The puppy was given to her as a gift in honor of her “Official Birthday,” and also coincided with what would’ve been the late Prince Philip’s 100th birthday.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s death in April was devastating loss for Elizabeth, who lost her husband and consort after 73 years together. Even the famously resolute monarch needed some comfort during this difficult mourning period.

So like many people, she turned to dogs. While the Queen had previously said she would not take in any new Corgis because of her age, she received two as gifts while Philip was in the hospital.

“It would be unthinkable for her not to have any,” a source told the Daily Mail. “It’s like the Tower of London not having any ravens. The new puppies are adorable.”

Sadly, the dogs meant to bring comfort and consolation only led to more sadness: one of the dogs, a dachshund-corgi named Fergus, died suddenly and unexpectedly at just five months old, leaving the queen “devastated.”

“The puppies were brought in to cheer her up during a very difficult period,” a royal source told The Sun. “Everyone concerned is upset as this comes so soon after she lost her husband.”

After facing two hard losses in recent months, combined with other rifts in the royal family lately, it’s clear that the Queen needs a comfort dog now more than ever.

The new addition will join her puppy Muick and her older dog Candy. “The Queen has had a rough time and she is absolutely delighted to have a new corgi,” a source told The Sun.

“She was distraught when Fergus died suddenly, but this new dog will be perfect company for Muick going forward.”

Corgis have been a big part of Elizabeth’s life, even before her reign as queen. The royals first got a Corgi in 1933, when Elizabeth’s father and predecessor, George VI (though he was Duke of York at the time) brought home a dog named Dookie.

The Queen has had her own dogs ever since receiving a dog named Susan for her 18th birthday. She has since raised over 30 dogs, which have been a staple of her life at Buckingham Palace for decades.

“Her corgis are hugely important to her,” Royal biographer Penny Junor told the Daily Mail. “They have over the years been closer to her than any human being. The corgis are intensely loyal and loving and they have never let her down.”

We’re so glad the Queen has her Corgis to bring her so much comfort and joy when things get tough, and it’s clear she loves them a lot. Congrats on the new dog!
