Plenty of dogs like to sit outside and watch the world go by — but one pup named Bogart does it in style.
The 4-year-old English bulldog loves attention, so when his parents built a fence around their yard that was too high for him to see over, Bogart was not happy.
“My husband made a new fence because our older dog was able to skip the fence,” Ranveig Bjørklid Levinsen, Bogart’s mom, told The Dodo. “They are very curious and wanted to see what was going on.”
The Levinsens’ house is near a popular hiking path in Denmark, and Bogart enjoyed seeing all the new people each day.
To satisfy Bogart’s need to people-watch, Levinsen’s husband decided to carve two holes in the fence — just large enough for both their pups to stick their heads through.
And while Bogart was happy, the holes looked a little plain all by themselves. To add a bit of humor, Levinsen came up with an idea to paint the holes like a photo stand-in.
“I thought, painting the outside like in amusement parks, where you can have your picture taken, was a fun idea,” Levinsen said. “I chose a crown and a jester hat, and my daughter Cecilie painted it.”
Bogart tends to favor the hole with the crown on it, which makes sense since he’s known as the little prince of the family.
“He is very loving, loyal and stubborn. If there is something he doesn’t want to do, he will not do it,” Levinsen said. “He loves it when we are having guests — the more, the merrier. ‘More attention for me,’ he seems to think.”
Recently, a video of Bogart poking his head out of his little hole went viral on social media — making him even more of a tourist attraction than he already was.
“I think the dogs and the fence are the most photographed dog and fence in Denmark,” Levinsen said.
Bogart might not be aware of his newfound fame, but both dogs are grateful for the increased foot traffic around their fence.
“They love it,” Levinsen said. “Attention is always good, and sometimes they get a little snack.”
