Bringing a new person into the family is not always easy. But meeting his new kitten sister made the day for Martin, a rescue dog.
Martin was not used to being alone, even though he was the only pet in the home when the new kitten arrived.
Alma, his Labrador sister, passed away just a year ago. Emilia Ivan, Martin’s owner, told that he experienced some depression resulting from Alma’s absence.
Ivan felt she had to give the small cat home and the attention she deserved when she learned that she had been left in a neighboring field.
Ivan was apprehensive to introduce the new kitten to Martin. The first night they met, though, it was “love at first sight,” as Ivan put it.
Martin immediately cuddled the kitten and gave it lots of licks during their initial encounter.
Martin meets his sister in this video:
Ivan and her boyfriend brought home the first kitten not long after discovering a second kitten, this time abandoned in their yard. Ivan stated, “We think she was left there by someone because they saw that we had another kitten. She was alone and scared.”
Martin gave the second kitty an equally hospitable welcome. Martin is one of the primary caregivers for the kittens in his household, where they have integrated perfectly.
According to Ivan, “He pays a lot of attention to them and takes care of them. He behaves like he’s their mother and they’re his daughters.”
Ivan and her partner have also observed that Martin’s grief has been somewhat lessened by the kittens. Their love for Martin has grown in unexpected ways.
“I’ve always loved Martin, but now when I see him taking care of the kittens, how careful and playful he is with them,” Ivan said.
