More than ten years after being saved, a senior dog was returned to a shelter. A local veterinarian, on the other hand, has offered her a lasting home.
Netty, 15, was rescued from the Pennsylvania SPCA in 2010, only to be returned lately due to incontinence, according to her guardians.
Ask practically every shelter worker what the most difficult and heartbreaking aspect of their job is. They’ll always say it’s people returning dogs. Netty’s narrative, on the other hand, has a happy conclusion.
Return to Shelter
“The return rate for animals varies, and it is not common.” But when it occurs, it may be upsetting, especially after a decade,” said Gillian Kocher, head of public relations. “However, rather than dwelling on what had brought her back to us, we chose to focus on how we might give her the greatest final days possible.”
Netty was soon doing “wonderfully” thanks to medication, but her “overall disposition was very melancholy,” according to Gillian Kocher, director of public relations at the Pennsylvania SPCA. “She stayed at our shelter’s hospital due to her age and the fact that she was fighting a [urinary tract infection].” Of course, she received a lot of attention, but she mostly slept.”
A Serial Senior Dog Adopter
When Netty met Amy Kidd, owner of Pocopson Veterinary Station, and her husband and children, she brightened up. Netty’s story was shared on social media by the shelter. Many people are aware that Kidd’s family only rescues senior pets, particularly ones with specific needs.
“As a small-animal veterinarian, I witness the requirements of elderly pets on a regular basis,” she explained to Newsweek, noting that dog and cat owners typically adopt puppies and kittens. Puppy mill parents, adult pets, and seniors, on the other hand, are more likely to be euthanized.
On August 21, 2022, Marta commented on a Newsweek article: “If people knew how satisfying it is to save senior dogs/cats, they would be racing to the shelters to adopt them… The gratitude they exhibit and the difference you can make in their lives is truly priceless!!! ”
