Dog who was in shelter for 2,555 days finally finds a home — congrats, Flip

It’s every shelter dog’s dream to get adopted, but sadly it takes some longer than others to finally find a home. Some dogs wait months or even years to get adopted.

But thankfully, the long wait is over for one dog: Flip, who was in a shelter for 2,555 days, has finally gone to his forever home.

On September 8, the Lake Humane Society, in Ohio, shared a post about a special dog who was in their care: Flip, a 7-year-old, black-and-white dog who had been waiting for a home nearly his entire life.

The shelter said that while Flip was a “total sweetheart,” he was having trouble finding just the right home.

“He has spent most of his life in a shelter through no fault of his own,” the shelter wrote. “While he needs to be the only pet inside the home, outside the home he is a social butterfly with other dogs! He is great on a leash, loves to cuddle and will be your weekend couch potato when you need a break from the world.”

Things had never been easy for poor Flip: he first arrived at the shelter after a humane investigation, and likely faced some abuse early in his life. After that spent the next seven years in the shelter waiting for a home.

Flip’s carers at the animal shelter gave him plenty of love and never gave up their mission of finding him a perfect home. They searched for a special owner who would be patient and allow Flip to “decompress” because he has “been through so much in his life.”

“The staff and volunteers are so in love with him and want him to live a life of kindness, trust and love that he deserves.”

Finally, after seven years of waiting, Flip finally found a home this month.

According to People, Jennifer Schorr heard about Flip’s story online, not long after suffering the loss of her own pet German Shepherd. While she was originally not planning on getting a new dog, she changed her mind after learning about Flip.

“When I saw Flip, he melted my heart, and his story melted it even more,” Jennifer told People.

She went to the Lake Humane Society and adopted Flip for good. While the shelter cautioned that it would take some time for Flip to adjust, he has been fitting right in in his new home.

“Flip trotted right in and made himself at home!” Jennifer said. “Flip is a very loving dog and loves to cuddle on the couch with you.”

She called Flip the “perfect dog,” and said he likes to go for walks and sleep in her bed.

“I am confident Flip will be just fine living with me in his forever home. I love him so much already,” Jennifer told People.

How amazing — we’re so glad this beautiful dog finally got adopted after seven years of waiting! And it definitely sounds like he found the perfect home!
