Grateful dog has big smile for rescuer who spent weeks trying to save her

It’s always inspiring to see people go out of their way to save dogs, but sometimes it can be hard work. Some strays are scared and skittish around humans, so it can take days or even weeks to earn their trust and lure them to safety.

That was the case recently, as one animal rescuer spent weeks trying to rescue a local dog — but thankfully her patience paid off, and she soon found it was worth all the trouble.

Suzette Hall is an animal rescuer and founder of Logan’s Legacy Rescue. She’s helped save the lives of many pets in need, but one recent case gave her more trouble than she expected.

According to The Dodo, she got a call about a small white dog who was seen by herself in an industrial area in Los Angeles. The dog had reportedly been on her own for three weeks before Suzette got involved.

However, getting the dog to safety proved to be more difficult than expected. “I tried traps, I tried food, I tried everything,” she told The Dodo. “But nothing would work because the people working there would chase her away.”

Suzette spent multiple days and nights at the scene trying to win the scared dog over, and nearly got her on a leash after luring her into a truck yard. But that attempt was once again foiled, and after that, the dog disappeared from the scene.

“I kept going back every day hoping that she would come back, but she never did,” Suzette said. “I thought for sure she was gone.”

Suzette was disappointed — but it turned out that wasn’t the end of the story.

Two weeks later with no sign of the dog, Suzette got another call about a dog in need. She arrived on the scene, and was surprised and happy to see it was the same dog she had been trying to rescue.

At long last, she was finally able to get the skittish dog into her car. Despite the difficulties, the matted little dog was visibly happy to be rescued — a photo shows the dog smiling up at Suzette:

“We all prayed and I never gave up,” Suzette wrote on Facebook. “Look at her now, happy, smiling … and so worth all the tears and hard work to get her safe.”

Suzette named the dog Worth — that’s the street she was found on, but also fitting because she was “worth” all the trouble Suzette had to go through.

“She was probably the hardest rescue I’ve ever done,” Suzette told The Dodo. “But she was so worth every minute of it.”

Suzette wrote that she has been fostering Worth, and told The Dodo that she has an adopter lined up.

This beautiful little dog has a very bright future ahead of her, thanks to Suzette’s hard work and patience — but in the end it was definitely “worth” it to make this dog smile.

What an inspiring story. It’s a reminder of the hard work animal rescuers do every day to get animals to safety. It can take a lot of time and work, but it’s always worth it in the end.
