It’s always heartbreaking when a pet goes missing, but it’s important not to lose hope — sometimes pets return to our lives when we least expect them, months or even years after they disappeared.
That was the case recently, after a dog who had been missing for 7 years reunited with his owner.
According to a Facebook post from the Spotsylvania Animal Shelter, in Virginia, two dogs named Starsky and Hutch went missing from their home in Fauquier County 7 years ago.
Losing two dogs at once is doubly heartbreaking and we can’t imagine what the owner went through all those years ago — but recently, she got some good news that she never imagined would come.
A little dog was recently found on the street in Spotsylvania and brought to the shelter. Staff members thankfully located a microchip, which allowed them to identify the dog’s owner.
They called the owner up and were stunned to learn the dog had been missing for 7 years: it was Starsky, found at last.
A photo shared by the shelter shows the moment Starsky reunited with his owner, who cried “many happy tears.” In the comments the shelter also shared a video of the heartwarming moment.
“We are so thrilled that his family has been reunited and that we were able to play a small part in that,” the shelter wrote.
Sadly, Hutch remains missing, but the unexpected reappearance of Starsky shows that miracles happen, and for the owner has “renewed hope that maybe one day Hutch will find his way back home as well.”
The Spotsylvania Animal Shelter also took the opportunity to remind people to get their pets microchipped, which makes remarkable reunions like this possible.
We’re so glad that Starsky is home after 7 years! We know his owner is thrilled to have him back and they will be making up for lost time. We hope that Hutch is also found someday.
Remember to get your pets microchipped, and please share this incredible news!
