Pit bulls were separated after their owner abandoned them — until a Hollywood star came to to the rescue

It’s always heartbreaking when dogs are abandoned by their owners, especially when they’ve been with them for so long. It takes them away from the life they’ve always knew: suddenly being in a shelter with no familiar faces can be scary and confusing.

That was the case for two pit bulls who were separated in a shelter. But thankfully they got a happy ending fitting of a Hollywood movie… complete with a real-life movie star.

The Facebook page Rescue Me Tampa – Shelter Dogs shared the heartbreaking story pair of pit bulls named Maggie and Ollie, who were surrendered to Hillsborough County Animal Services.

They had lived together with the same owner for six years, until they abruptly decided to give the dogs up due to a new baby.

It’s heartbreaking to hear that these good dogs were given up so heartlessly… and making things even worse, they didn’t even have each other for company: they were housed separately.

“They have no idea what they did to deserve this,” Rescue Me Tampa wrote. “It just breaks my heart. They lived their whole life together!”

While the dogs were not officially listed as “bonded,” the group implored people to consider adopting the two dogs together to reunite them.

“They just lost everything they knew and loved,” they wrote. “[Ollie] would love to be reunited with Maggie.”

The post had two thousand shares, and both dogs were housebroken and knew basic commands, but it still seemed like a longshot that someone would take in not one but two older rescue pit bulls.

But the group posted an amazing update: the two dogs got a real Hollywood ending.

They were both adopted by actor Dave Bautista!

Rescue Me Tampa wrote that the dogs “hit the doggie lottery,” getting adopted and reunited by Hollywood actor Dave Bautista.

Bautista, a former professional wrestler, is best known to most audiences for playing Drax in the Guardians of the Galaxy series, among other high-profile roles.

On set, he’s known for being passionate about dogs.

“He really loves his dogs man,” actor Kumail Nanjiani, who co-starred with Bautista in the comedy film Stuber, recalled to the Tampa Bay Times.

“There are some parts where we were shooting with a dog in a car, and the dog would get overheated and he was just so attuned to it. Dave would be like, ‘We can’t shoot! We have to cool him down!’

So when Bautista heard about the pit bulls, he knew he had to be their savior: “I needed them, they needed me,” he wrote on Instagram.

“These beautiful babies spent the first six years of their lives neglected and abused. And now they are going to spend the rest of their lives being spoiled and loved.”

Let’s thank Dave Bautista for being a superhero in real life and giving these poor dogs a good home and a new start! Share this incredible story!
