Animal Shelter’s Hilarious Post Gets ‘A-hole’ Dog Adopted In Just 8 Hours

It’s not every day that being called an “a-hole” turns out to be in your favor. But for a one-year-old shelter dog that’s exactly what happened.

Eddie arrived at the Humane Society of Wichita County in Texas in October. The shelter initially described him as “a little nervous to be in the shelter, but he is very sweet once he makes friends with you” and added “he’s very mild mannered.”

But after over a month of no offers to adopt Eddie, shelter staff decided to take a different tack to help the Chihuahua mix find a home. They decided to lay it all out there “in black and white” along with a big dose of humor. Their new Facebook post read:

“This is Eddie, Eddie is an a$$hole. Eddie hates other dogs, he’s 17 pounds and could take on a Rottweiler and win. If Eddie had an accent, he would sound like he’s from the Bronx, wearing a wife beater t-shirt and a tattoo that says MOM on his arm. If you got into a bar fight, Eddie would back you up and take on all 5 guys, put his cigarette out on their forehead and not spilling a drop of his beer while doing it. So, if you think you are man enough to adopt him, please be our guest. We want Eddie out of here because he scares our big dogs.”

The post worked its magic and it quickly went viral getting over 85,000 shares. And just 8 hours later Eddie was adopted by the Brooks family.

Linda Brooks told Fox 4 she saw the post and took her daughter from Cleburne to Witchita Falls (140 miles) to pick up the dog.

The shelter shared a picture of Linda’s daughter Taryn snuggling with Eddie shortly after.

Eddie has gotten so many fans through the shelter’s initial post, that the family has set up a Facebook fan page for him appropriately named “A-hole Eddie.”

Eddie is settling in with his new family and getting ready for the holidays.

“Good morning my hoomans! Morning walk no squirrel 🐿️

🐿️ guess he finally figured out who runs this block. Adult hooman had to stop and tie her shoes (because I needed out so bad that she didn’t have time to tie them). The garbage man pulls up in a loud garbage truck making way too much of a ruckus in my neighborhood this morning. I took off after him make my Hooman fall on her knee causing something called a grass stain. I hear “A$$hole Eddie!” I turn around and my hooman isn’t smiling. Geez someone needs their coffee this morning. Hooman is still upset but I gave her this look and now I am relaxing with my coffee and cigarette thinking it is going to be it’s 5 o’clock somewhere kind of day. 🐾

And if there’s any message that his family would want to share it’s that look to adopting pets from shelters. Because, we’d add, even “a-hole” dogs deserve a home.
