Rescue finds shelter dog being “eaten alive” — gives him the care he needs

Some dogs arrive at the shelter in rough shape. They require a lot of love and care for a chance to thrive and live their best lives.

Recently, one animal rescuer was shocked to find a shelter dog being “eaten alive” and in great discomfort, before she changed the dog’s life forever.

Whitney Fang, founder of Hearts & Bones Rescue in Dallas, Texas, shared a TikTok video about a shelter dog named Paco, a Great Pyrenees mix who was found as a stray and brought to Dallas Animal Services.

Whitney paid a visit to see Paco. She wrote that the shelter was past 100% capacity and that they lack the space for big dogs, so she was interested in taking him in as a rescue.

Upon meeting the dog, she was shocked to see that the dog was covered in ticks. “He was clearly left to be eaten alive for a very long time,” she wrote, calling him “one of the saddest, most tick-infested strays” she had seen.

The next day, she returned to the shelter to get him — and began “working on his glow-up.”

Over 100 ticks were pulled off the dog, and he was given anti-flea and anti-tick baths, providing some much-needed and overdue relief. Whitney also wrote that she was working on getting him “much needed medical appointments.”

Despite all the discomfort he went through, Paco reportedly has a remarkably positive attitude.

“Paco is all about vibes,” Whitney wrote on TikTok. “He slowly strolls through a packed shelter and goes about life smelling the butterflies. We could all learn a lesson or two from him!”

In a follow-up video, Whitney wrote that Paco was recovering from a tick-borne illness, but will soon be available for adoption through Hearts and Bones Rescue.

@whitneysdogs

This is Paco. He was found as a stray and brought to Dallas Animal Services. Unbeknownst to me at the time, he was FULL of ticks – he was clearly left to be eaten alive for a very long time. Paco is all about vibes. He slowly strolls through a packed shelter and goes about life smelling the butterflies. We could all learn a lesson or two from him! Well, I promised Paco I’d be back. The next day, I picked him up after his neuter surgery and we immediately started working on his glow-up. Over 100 ticks were pulled off of him, he’s gotten two anti-flea/tick baths, a good brushing, and we are now working on much needed medical appointments. When he’s feeling better, he will be available for adoption through @heartsandbonesrescue! It’s sad that Paco was covered in so many ticks, but we’re glad he was rescued and got some much-needed relief! We hope he finds a forever home soon!
