Chewy is a three-month-old Chihuahua found by an airport security guard at the McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas.
The dog was aฦ anิฮฟneิ inside one of the airportโs restrooms.
Apparently, Chewyโs owner was fleeing to escape an a.b.u.s.i.v.e relationship. Sadly, his owner couldnโt bring him on her flight, so she decided to leave Chewy with a letter, hoping a goodhearted person would find him.
The letter read, โHi! Iโm Chewy! My owner was in an abusive relationship and couldnโt afford me to get on the flight. She didnโt want to leave me with all her heart, but she has NO other option.
Chewy needed immediate medical attention for a head trauma. To help him, the airport staff reached out to Connor and Millieโs Dog Rescue, a foster-based local non-profit center.
Fortunately, the rescue center took Chewy in, and he was rushed to an emergency vet clinic. Connor and Millieโs Dog Rescue, or CMDR, accepts senior and special needs dogs and takes care of them while looking for the dogsโ permanent homes.
Soon, Chewy made a full recovery, and his story touched so many peopleโs hearts that it didnโt take much time for the shelter to find him a forever home.
Today, Gilliam wonders how many other owners and pets are currently victims of domestic violence and are trapped in a.b.u.s.i.v.e relationships.
Now, to help those in a.b.u.s.i.v.e situations, she shares Chewyโs story to show that victims can find a safe haven at CMDR.
