Puppy Found Starving and Covered in Feces So Relieved to See Rescuers

Detroit Pit Crew Dog Rescue regularly gets calls about dogs needing help, but this one puppy needed help fast if she was going to survive.

After receiving an emergency call, the animal rescuers immediately reached out to the Detroit Police Department 6th Precinct for help in saving the pup.

What they found was s.h.o.c.k.i.n.g – a tiny young puppy covered in feces sitting inside a wire crate d.u.m.p.e.d outside.

Detroit Pit Crew Dog Rescue writes on Facebook: “This evening we received an urgent call regarding a puppy outside in a wire crate covered in feces. Our crew immediately reached out to our friends at the Detroit Police Department 6th Precinct for assistance and within minutes they had gotten to the location and secured the puppy for us.”

It was clear upon lifting “Bessie” out of the crate that the poor puppy had been starved and was severely malnourished.

Officers gently cuddled the puppy and wrapped her in a warm blanket before handing her over to the Detroit Pit Crew who rushed her to an emergency veterinary hospital for care.

Detroit Pit Crew is so thankful for “the heroes at DPD who go above and beyond for the pups.”

Once at the hospital, Detroit Pit Crew shared news on Bessie’s condition the following day and revealed her condition is very poor.

“Her body condition is terrible as she is around 6 months old and weighed in at 14 pounds,” the rescuers write. “We rushed her to an emergency veterinary hospital last night where she tested negative for parvo and blood test results showed that she was dehydrated with a high white bloodcell count.”

Clearly, despite her awful ordeal Bessie is feeling better even after just one night of care. She looks alert and hopeful in one of the photos taken at the hospital.

Presently, Bessie’s health will be monitored and she will continue with her medical treatment. Detroit Pit Crew writes, “We are happy to report that overall Bessie is doing better today and she is looking forward to her new better life.”
